Important question about trading in my car..?

Postby Big Inc. » Wed Dec 12, 2007 7:38 pm

Im trading in my 2005 Honda Civic EX Special Edition. My dad signed for the car in 05 and I co signed. I have made all of the payments since day one, every single penny. Can I trade my car in without my dad being there? Is this possible to go to a dealer alone and trade it in? I don't have the title, the bank does, because I still owe about $14,000 on it.Thanks so much.

is your fathers name is on the title then he's to sign papers so you may be able to trade it. I used to own an 05 honda civic ex se but traded it for an acura. if your fathers name isn't on the title and he only co signed to get you the car loan then you can trade it without him. good luck. when I traded my civic nearly a year ago they gave me 13,750 for it. I didn't owe anything. It had 42,000 miles on it and was in excellant condition. do you know if you owe more than what they'll pay you for your trade will be added to your next loan. How much to you want to pay and can pay for. think about that before you purchase another car.

You can purchase a car by yourself. you'll still have to pay the $14,000 on your car too. I doubt the car dealership will trade your car that you still owe $14,000 on it. Im sure your father will be mad without consulting him 1st.

Call the bank and see whos name s are on the title.its most likely in both your names so youll have to get your dad to sign off on it when you trade it in. learn how much the payoff is if you sell it now or trade it in versus how much the car is worth for trade in/retail value you may owe a bit more than what its worth. Check KBB.com or Edmunds.com for tradein and retail values.
