The market is high now. I could recommend putting 50% of your money in Vanguards Total Bond Index Fund, 25% of your money in Vanguards Total International Market Index Fund, and 25% of your money in Vanguards Total US Market Fund. Then when the market corrects which it totally will in the next year or you may be able to move the money in your bond fund into the other two in equal parts and hang on for the ride when the prices recover, which they'll.

The thing to think about is that this plan can take five seven years to get from where we're now high to low back to high. But if you follow my advice, you'll more than double your money in five seven years.

Index money have LOW fees ~0.2% no commissions and they outperform 2/3 of all managed money.

If you insist on purchasing individual stocks, the only individual stocks I own are Plum Creek Timber PCL and Rayonier RYN, and you can research Timber stocks as an asset class to see why.

I just love the Schwab site. schwab.com Take a bunch of money to Schwab and open an account or move but I generally like to go in 1st time Then online it's so informative. You get charts and assessments and the monthly documentation tells all the dividends and what is and isn't taxable to state and federal. generally remember to never purchase emotionally I mean if you like Krispy Kreme donuts that is not a reason, but rather is the company solid? is the question to ask I'm certain you may be able to do it yourself once you get an account and study the ratings. Take your time and remember its a risk so never invest more than you may be able to pay for to lose. Good Luck

Most online brokers charge more or less the same it really doesn't matter where you open an account.

You have to concentrate on what you want to do. I presume by nothing too expensive you mean lower priced stocks, most of which are small caps. If you want to do it yourself, join a free stock picking group like:

finance.groups..com/group/Tr.

If you dont have the time, you must pay somebody to do the legwork for you:

tradingzoom.com/home
